I'm sure your dad will love the blanket! I haven't had the courage to attempt any "graph" type crochet patterns yet. Everyone's parents get on their nerves every now and then, but be thankful you still have your dad around. My dad passed away a few years ago, and I miss him every day.

Your dad will love it. And I love that you will be able to give this to him. When I started knitting, I started a blanket for my dad, but he passed before I could give it to him. My mom still has the blanket, and enjoyed using it. When I picked up crocheting, I made her a blanket and she used it that night. Parents have a great way of appreciating everything we do for them and appreciate the items that we put the thought into, like your blanket for your dad.
